Community Involvement
Employees of the Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´Health System give their time and talents in service to others in West Alabama at work and in their community. Throughout the year, you'll see Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´employees volunteering their time to support community events that benefit organizations such as the March of Dimes, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´Health System employees and physicians are out in our schools, churches, malls and at civic organizations sharing practical information on how to stay healthy. And Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´sponsors health fairs and free screenings, including an annual prostate screening and a breast screening and education program.
Many support groups that help people in the community with special needs are supported by DCH, and Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´supports education by participating in the Adopt-A-School program. Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´Health System Hospitals show their support for the community by providing health care to individuals who cannot afford it. The citizens of Tuscaloosa County have helped Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´meet its mission of service. Of the county's 3-cent sales tax, 6.7 percent is set aside for Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´Regional Medical Center to help pay for health care for indigent patients from Tuscaloosa County. Â鶹ÊÓƵËæÒâ¿´provides 17 dollars in care to the indigent for every dollar it receives.
